# Subscription Statuses

Daisychain aims to help your organization abide by best practices and rules and regulations for opted in texting. To help facilitate this, we offer several different types of subscription statuses for the numbers in your Daisychain account.

**Textable** phone numbers have been identified as mobile numbers which have not been opted out.

Textability describes a **phone number**, not a person: a number is textable when it's a mobile line that can receive SMS (not a landline or other non-mobile type) and hasn't been opted out. Because this status lives on the number itself, an opt-out follows that number everywhere — if the same number is added to another contact, it remains opted out there too.

"Textable" describes what's technically deliverable — not whether a given message is permitted. Opt-in and consent requirements for SMS vary by channel by legal jurisdiction and carrier rules. You're responsible for ensuring you have the consent that is appropriate for your channel — when in doubt, collect and record an explicit opt-in.
{% endhint %}

**Opted in** numbers are numbers for which you have collected affirmative opt-in consent to text — the person explicitly opted in to receive your messages. This is a requirement for certain types of texting, such as from short-codes. (In data exports, this status appears as **subscribed**.)

{% hint style="info" %}
When you opt a person in, all numbers associated with that person are marked as opted-in. If a person is opted-in but their number is deemed “not textable” (i.e. their number is a landline), this person will still not be able to receive messages from you.
{% endhint %}

**Opted out** numbers cannot be texted. If you opt out a number listed under one person, that number’s opt out status will persist across people records — so if you add an opted out number to another person, that number will still be opted out.
